The “Plan B” Virus

According to Dictionary.com, Plan B is a strategy or plan to be implemented if the original one proves impracticable or unsuccessful. It’s the backup plan or the fallback plan or the contingency plan. Having a Plan B, whether starting a business or rebuilding after COVID 19, may seem like a smart move, but in actuality, it is an acknowledgment that your business — Plan A — may not have the full range of resources and attention it needs to succeed.

Plan B is like asking someone, an employee, your child, significant other, a family member or friend to do something. The common response is: “I’ll try,” which in my mind means that from the get-go it might not get done. "I will try," is Plan B in disguise.

When you begin to rebuild or expand or change directions, never have a Plan B. Once you do, your mind will provide plenty of options to quit or be mediocre. Anything I've ever done in my life that's been important, did not have a Plan B, because when somebody starts thinking about the alternative, chances are that Plan A is not going to get their full attention, creativity, energy, problem solving skills, etc.

When you set your mind to something, it should be fixated on getting that thing accomplished. When I started my business about nine years ago, never having a Plan B enabled me to survive challenges that came at me as a business owner; the unexpected things that you just didn't really plan for. People who have a Plan B in the back of their minds, often don’t find creative solutions to problems they face. Having a Plan B is like walking with crutches because you are afraid to take the first step on your own.

In summary, your mind is the most powerful tool you have. No Plan B allows you to get up each day not looking back but concentrating on moving one step closer to your dreams and conquering the world.
